Iowa City murder appeal upends first degree conviction
The Iowa Court of Appeals reversed Justin A. Marshall's 2013 first degree murder conviction in the 2009 shooting of landlord John Versyot. The ruling holds jail informants acted as state agents, potentially warranting retrial and altering evidence admissibility. The decision sends the case back to Johnson County District Court and leaves open further action by the Iowa Supreme Court.
