The Solon City Council approved Benjamin P. Hayek as city attorney in a 5-0 vote. Hayek, of Hayek Brown More Land and Smith of Iowa City, will be paid 18000 dollars annually and assumed duties Thursday attending council Board of Adjustment and Planning and Zoning Commission meetings to replace Bruce Goddard.
Solon will borrow 315000 from Ryan Securities to fund unbudgeted winter storm repairs. The loan covers paving Racine Avenue and Lovers Street, plus a new water main in Green Acres Drive. The 10 year loan will be repaid via debt service tax and tax increment financing. The debt service tax is 25 cents and may rise at future councils' discretion.
