Storms churn through eastern Iowa crippling power and polling places
Storms battered eastern Iowa Tuesday morning causing widespread outages from Cedar Rapids to Amana and North Liberty. In Linn County three polling sites Harrison Elementary Hamilton College and Linn Grove Church briefly lost power but remained open as ballots were processed with auxiliary power and battery runs. Utility crews restored most service within hours with Alliant Energy reporting about 15 000 customers affected and Iowa City area reporting minor damage. The strongest wind gust reached 41 mph at The Eastern Iowa Airport with damage limited to fallen tree limbs and scattered outages across the region.
