Houses Set on Fire by Blast of Gasoline Truck
A gasoline tanker overturned and exploded on Toledo’s edge of the downtown district injuring about 65 people, many children. Nearly all of Vinton Street’s 600 block burned, with 9 houses damaged or destroyed. Firefighters were among the injured, and one witness described a solid sheet of fire across the street. One boy, 12 year old Frank Dailey, was knocked from a treehouse during the blast. Nearby resident Leonal Muniz was burned while repairing his car.

Five thousand six cars given inspection in two lanes
A total of 3,006 cars were checked in two safety inspection lanes during the day period ending Saturday at 8 pm. One 1926 Model T owned by Frank Koutny was among the 1,700 cars checked Saturday and listed in perfect condition on Fourth Avenue SW. The other lane operated on C Avenue NE between 14th and 15th Streets. About two thirds received safety stickers, while the rest were repaired and passed later. Windshield stickers exempted cars from future spot checks. Cooperation from Boy Scouts and local filling station and garage owners aided the effort.
