About 175 4 H girls leaders and guests gathered at Franklin school Cedar Rapids for the Linn County Rally Day with the Oven Products project and music appreciation. The Merry Sous club won first in the song festival earning a portable phonograph. Jackson Juniors and Sunny Susies took second and third with phonograph records and sheet music prizes. Thirteen of fifteen clubs attended as Mrs William McEvoy Jr directed the song contest and Rex B Conn welcomed attendees.

Linn County Agent Rex B. Conn urged farmers to apply a second cover spray in orchards within ten to fourteen days after the first. He warned winter bud injury has hurt Iowa apple prospects and noted codling moths have been emerging since May 17 in the region. He advised a spray mix of lead arsenate plus Bordeaux 2-3-50 or liquid lime sulfur with hydrated lime for worm control and to combat likely rapid scab development after heavy rains.

In May the 352 cows, 39 dry, across 26 herds in Benton County Cow Test Assn No 1 averaged 810 pounds of milk and 30.2 pounds of butterfat. Sixty six cows produced 40 to 50 pounds of butterfat. fourteen 50 to 60 pounds. six 60 to 70 pounds. three 70 to 80 pounds. Herman Rogers had the high herd with 16 grade Jerseys averaging 881 pounds of milk and 44.8 pounds of butterfat. All 26 members fed balanced rations and pasture.

Nearly seven million dollars in Iowa corn loans placed under seal last winter plus about 140000 dollars in interest fall due July 1, according to H C Aaberg assistant secretary of agriculture.
