UI Health Care settles two malpractice suits for 3.5 million
Iowa City UI Health Care will pay 3.5 million to settle two malpractice lawsuits. One case involves Jeffrey Spahn, a 63-year-old man who died during surgery to repair a broken leg in Dubuque after cardiac arrest. The other concerns Sheryl Pruin, a 60-year-old Argyle woman who suffered tissue damage from anesthesia IV leakage during a January 2021 plastic surgery.

Cedar Rapids mother pleads guilty in insulin endangerment case
Alexandra Marie Frost 26 pleaded guilty in Johnson County District Court to child endangerment resulting in bodily injury and administering harmful substances after injecting her 2 year old son with insulin. The toddler was hospitalized and doctors suspected medical child abuse. Frost faces up to 10 years. she seeks a suspended sentence and probation.
