Cedar Rapids couple lose bid for elderly living complex approval

A Cedar Rapids couple lost their second bid for state authorization of a 100 bed nursing home and 66 apartment complex named Village Southwest Inc. The State Health Facilities Council voted 5 0 against the 2.1 million project, citing adequate beds in Linn County and concerns over high endowments and ongoing fees for elderly residents.

Hiawatha Sets Cleanup Days Beginning Monday

The city designates Clean Up Fix Up Paint Up Days from Monday through Saturday with the Lions Club helping to haul junk and tow abandoned cars. Mayor pro tempore Steve West cites city vehicles and volunteer Lions members, including city workers, to run the effort on Saturday June 18. Residents must place large items for curb pickup by noon that day and may call City Hall at 393-1515 to arrange tow services for junk cars with proper titles.

Lawsuit filed over Starmont pupil injury and coaching staff

The Peterman family sues the Starmont School District and two coaches in Clayton County alleging negligence after 14 year old Michael Peterman fractured his right humeral neck during a cradle hold demonstration. They seek 50 thousand dollars exemplary damages from the district and 25 thousand from coaches Mark Klinger and Dale Fox, plus medical expenses. Michael, once a timekeeper and non team member, faced delayed care and ongoing medical costs.

Ring valued at 1500 reported stolen from Dover Street home

A diamond ring valued at 1500 was reported stolen Thursday from the Mary Jane Trunecek residence at 1129 Dover St NE. Police found no signs of forced entry and believe the ring was taken between 8 a.m. and 1 10 p.m.

Burglary Report At Five Seasons Painting & Drywall

Property valued at 408 dollars was stolen from Five Seasons Painting & Drywall at 809 Shaver Road NE between June 3 and 6. Police say there were no signs of forced entry. Items missing include a clock a typewriter a calculator and cash.

State sues to dismiss Black promotion suit in Iowa City

The Iowa attorney general seeks dismissal of Asa Black's civil suit in Johnson County District Court.
