Pemberton Heads ACLU Defending Unpopular Causes
Harold Sheehan profiles John de Jarnette Pemberton the new ACLU executive director. A Rochester Minnesota native and former Minnesota GOP organizer, he leads a group known for defending communists and George Lincoln Rockwell while pressing to abolish the House Un-American Activities Committee. The ACLU counts about 60 000 members with a 600 000 dollar annual budget. Pemberton says the group defends constitutional guarantees for all even those despised.
