Soviet imports cut in half in first quarter of 1933
Detailed figures show Soviet foreign trade in the first quarter totalled just over 200 million rubles, down from 336 million a year earlier. Imports fell more than exports, improving the balance to a 24 million ruble surplus, with U.S. trade shrinking and Britain and Germany showing sharp shifts in exports and imports. The United States supplied 3.9 million rubles of imports and received 2.46 million rubles in exports during the three months, while Britain and Germany saw steep declines in purchases and mixed changes in sales.
