Nursing Homes Nationwide Fail Staffing Benchmarks in Late 2024
Nationwide analysis shows over 90 percent of nursing homes understaffed versus needs. In Iowa, six of the 12 lowest facilities are run by Care Initiatives, with several facilities posting 40 to 48 percent below expected nurse hours per resident per day. The report notes heavy use of aides over registered nurses and calls for delayed enforcement of new minimum staffing standards.
