Jean Ladora Reese 79 of Iowa City died May 18 2017 from complications after a head injury from a fall. A renowned nurse educator she taught at Mary Lanning Clark Community College and the University of Iowa College of Nursing and authored class lectures on pathology. A memorial service is set for June 16 at the Unitarian Universalist Church in Coralville with a reception to follow and donations urged to multiple local organizations.

Charles Joseph Phelps known as Chuck, 77, of Lisbon died June 7 2017 at Mercy Medical Center Cedar Rapids. Visitation set for June 11 at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Resigning regents director cites salary cap as issue
Cedar Falls Iowa outgoing Board of Regents Executive Director Robert Donley said he planned to resign for months citing a leadership change and East Coast family. He noted the $154,300 salary cap, among the lowest for similar posts, as an unusual limit and urged lawmakers to remove the ceiling. The nine member board unanimously accepted his July 15 departure and named interim leadership, with COO Mark Braun stepping into Donley’s seat at the meeting. Donley said he may pursue higher education roles but wants time off first.
