Simpson presses 12 debates with Rep. Leach in race
Democratic challenger Bob Simpson, after winning the 1st District primary 65 to 35, says he will seek twelve debates with incumbent Republican Rep. Jim Leach before the November 7 election, including eight counties and four topic-focused events, and will hold empty chair debates if Leach does not attend. Leach’s camp cites a busy schedule and says it is too early to confirm specifics. Simpson vows a tougher, less forgiving campaign and rejects outspending Leach as a strategy.
