Three people were injured when their car ran off highway No. 1 ten miles north of Cedar Rapids, leaped a ditch and rolled into a cornfield at 7 15 p m. Kathryn Fisher 20 Troy Mills suffered back injuries and lacerations, William Lennox 19 Coggan driver had cuts to legs and hands, and Margaret Fisher 22 Kathryn’s sister head injuries. Kathryn was in fair condition Monday at St Luke s hospital others released. Lennox said he swung left to pass a car, another car began to pass, he cut back and lost control. witnesses said the car rose from the shoulder and dragged a telephone wire.
James Stoneking, 59, of Marion, was arrested at 11 40 p m Saturday at the Checkerboard tavern for illegal sale of liquor. He was booked at the county jail after deputies said he was caught in the act selling a pint of whisky. Stoneking previously served 30 days of a four month sentence in 1939 for illegal possession of liquor.
Washington AP reports Ralph K. Davies vice president of Standard Oil California was appointed deputy petroleum coordinator on Monday. He will serve under the secretary of interior and help oversee energy policy and oil distribution during the transition period.
