Iowa Labor Convention Sees CIO Influence At 35 Percent Vote
At Sioux City the Iowa State Federation of Labor opened its annual convention amid factional tension. CIO aligned unions controlled over 35 percent of the votes, including miners. If Fred A. Canfield succeeds in blocking CIO delegates seating, Iowa labor ranks may split formally. Candidates to replace J. C. Lewis narrowed to Alf Hjort, Albert A. Couch, Shadle Sticks With A F of L, Ray E. Hughes, and W. J. Gallery, with Molly leaders presiding as speakers and executives. Mrs Ida Griebling won reelection president of the Iowa Women’s Union Label League, with Mrs Daisy White as vice president.
