Iowa to restructure child mental health services regionally
The state consolidates counties into East Central Iowa Mental Health and Disabilities Services covering Linn Johnson and eight other counties. The shift toward community based care aims to reduce institutions, but waitlists persist with 1,600 Iowa children awaiting services. Access remains uneven due to Medicaid eligibility limits and a shortage of child psychiatrists across 65 of 99 counties.
