Italy Seeks Return of Missing Duccio Masterpiece

Italian investigators accuse an unnamed English intermediary of smuggling a Duccio Christ on the Cross painting out of Italy last year. The work valued around 600000 dollars vanished after passing through Britain and is now sought in Germany. If recovered via diplomatic channels, the present owner may claim restitution from the vendor through Italian courts. The piece was originally in a late 19th century ornate frame, likely removed. The case, led by Dr Rodolfo Siviero, involves a dispute with Swiss financier Baron Heinrich Thyssen over two works.
