Uncertain Future Seen for Beef Futures Trading
Iowa State economists Futrell and Skiedberg say live steer futures hedging has yet to prove profitable for most feeders. They note April deliveries, rising March and April cash markets, and the need for more information as trading in cattle futures expands since Nov 1964. Deliveries may rise as cash price ranges widen from two to three dollars.

Challenge Feeding Means Cutting Grain After Peak
Dairymen may be near diminishing returns from extra grain as Illinois dairy scientists report. A study of 92 DHIA herds shows grain per cow rising 43 percent since 1954 and milk output up about 120 percent, but many cows were fed too much grain late in lactation. Costs of extra grain largely offset higher revenue, suggesting peak production should guide grain cuts after peak.
