The Associated Press reports a weekend toll of eleven Iowa deaths across diverse incidents. Traer Man Hurt In Waterloo Crash At Intersection
Larry Claussen, 21, of Traer was listed in good condition at a Waterloo hospital after a two car crash 2 miles southwest of here Sunday. Darwin A. Richardson, 56, driver of the other car, was listed in fair condition with fractures and internal injuries, and his wife Mildred was in good condition.

Postville Man Burned in House Fire
Curtis Thornton of Postville, 28, was listed in fairly good condition at the hospital Monday with back and arm burns from a fire Sunday. He and his wife and child lived on the second floor of a two dwelling home. Mrs Dundee on the first floor alerted the family. all escaped but Thornton was burned descending the stairs. The upper floor was gutted and the first floor damaged by smoke and water. cause not yet determined.

Iowa Justice Hays Stricken at Grinnell
Iowa Supreme Court Justice Norman R. Hays a 1914 Grinnell College graduate was stricken Saturday while attending alumni days and was hospitalized in Grinnell in satisfactory condition on Monday. The 73 year old Knoxville resident has served on the high court since 1946 and his illness was not disclosed by his physician.

Countess Attlee, 69, mother of an Iowa City woman, died Sunday from a cerebral hemorrhage. Wife of former Prime Minister Clement Attlee, she was married to Lord Attlee and mother to Mrs Harold. The report notes her death over the weekend in England.

TenBroek Praises Iowa Blind Aid Program At Convention
Dr. Jacobus tenBroek of the University of California praised Iowa’s blind aid program as trailblazing at the Iowa Association of the Blind convention in Vinton. He noted the Iowa Commission for the Blind and its director Kenneth Jernigan raised formerly poor programs to high standards and led a social revolution for thousands of blind Americans. TenBroek received an honorary degree from Parsons College for his leadership and scholarship.

SOLON Erma Millis Brown aged 51 died Saturday in Havelock North Carolina. Born September 28 1912 near Solon she moved to Cedar Rapids in 1922 and later Iowa City before relocating to Havelock in 1957. Surviving are two sons Dorne Millis and Jack Millis a mother Mrs Joe Pohler a sister Mrs Fred Miller a brother S A McLaughlin and three grandchildren. Services Thursday at 2 at Brush funeral home and burial at Oakland Cemetery in Solon.
