GOP delegates split Iowa districts for convention seats
In Iowa GOP caucuses at Coralville and nearby venues delegates split between Bush and Reagan. The 2nd District elected two Bush backers on the first ballot, a Reaganite won a convention seat on the second ballot, while the 4th District forged a Bush-favoring compromise. The 5th District yielded a Reagan sweep of the five delegates. Delegates in the 3rd District nominated all five national delegates as midnight approached, amid grumbling over a proposed three Reaganites vote. Ray Hagie of Clarion signals a bid for one of seven at large seats.
