Washington designer L enlant foresaw a grand capital
A long reminiscence traces Pierre L Enfant, born in Paris, through his service in the American Revolution, appointment by Washington to design the capital, and the eventual creation of a monumental plan for the federal city. The piece notes his struggles with commissioners, firing, and posthumous recognition at Arlington, viewing the Capitol and the dome named for him.
