In New York garment center twice yearly buyers from across the nation converge for fashion decisions that shape American wardrobes. The feature highlights the buyers’ high stakes, busy schedules, and their influence on what women wear each season.
Patricia Ann Dufour and Donald F. Burroughs exchanged vows at St Patrick's church Tama in a 9 am double ring ceremony. The bride, daughter of Mr and Mrs Jerry Dufour, wore ivory slipper satin with rhinestones and a seed pearl crown. Bridesmaids wore colored gowns and carried colonial bouquets. Best man was John P Burroughs. ushers included Joe Dufour and Mike Burroughs.
A reader shares a two dish menu with Philadelphia Cabbage prepared with cream cheese and a prune pie. The cabbage is cooked briefly then folded with cream cheese. the prune pie features a rice filling in a graham crust with a meringue topping baked to a brown finish.
Dorothy Terpkosh and James Wilkin were married Saturday at 9 30 in St Wenceslaus church with Rev. John J. Benda officiating. The bride daughter of Mrs Milo Terpkosh Malcolm wore Chantilly lace gown with nylon yoke and net veil. Attendants wore pink gowns. A 200 guest reception followed in church parlors and a 2 p m dinner at the Roosevelt hotel with a Danceland dance later. A trip to the Ozarks was planned after the wedding festivities.
A couple intends to relocate to a farm south of Cedar Rapids, establishing residence there. The move aims to build a rural lifestyle with agricultural work and family needs serving as guiding factors.
In a Sunday 8 p.m. ceremony at St. Pauls Lutheran in Monona, Joanita Blumhagen, daughter of Mr and Mrs Arno D Blumhagen, married Daniel E Schweikert, son of Mr and Mrs Ted J Schweikert. The Rev R C Schlueter officiated as 275 guests attended a church parlor reception. The couple will reside in Des Moines where Schweikert works for Commercial Credit Financing.
Della Marie Morris and Mal B Ward wed at the Christian church in Center Point. Rev George Koch officiated a double ring ceremony. The couple plans to live on a farm southeast of Center Point after a trip to Minnesota and Canada.
May 31 wedding at Immaculate Conception church North Washington joined Phyllis M Zubrod and Charles C Kvidera. They plan to farm near Tacer Masonville. Lois Reth and Pvt Thomas Hollermann wed at Camp Chaffee Ark with families present. Marian Tresemer and David Monahan married in St John Lutheran Wakefield. Raynell Chettinger and Raymond Bissell wed in Lamont Lutheran church Arlington.
A simple method to make a date filling by simmering quarter cup dates with one cup water and three quarters cup sugar for about 15 minutes until thick. Use as a spread for rolled oatmeal cookies for a nostalgic flavor.

The Ko Da La La Camp Fire Girls spent an overnight at the Joe Novotny cabin on the Wapsie river. They were joined by Mr. and Mrs. R L Lighthart. The girls cooked breakfast and lunch over a camp fire. Mrs Lighthart and Mrs Novotny led a trail hike Saturday.
