Weather Will Limit Corn Borer Damage
Ames Iowa State College extension entomologist Harold Gunderson says corn borer damage in Iowa hinges on the next three to four weeks weather. Early eggs found June 1 in Clinton county. 95 percent of caterpillars are pupating. moths to emerge in two weeks could cause damage. If suitable corn fields are scarce, damage may be reduced. The season’s cool rains delayed planting but not moth development. much corn will be late, aiding second-generation borers if first generation finds crops.
