Iowa Democrats react to Hopkins Corcoran interference by nominating Guy Gillette. Corcoran and Hopkins push to pivot support toward Wearin. Dickinson remains Gillette’s main Republican rival. In a tight Republican primary for lieutenant governor, Thompson of Muscatine pulled ahead as returns from 2,199 precincts showed 99,332 votes for Thompson and 91,582 for Hickenlooper, an 8,000 vote edge. Other races saw incumbents widening leads with Kraschel and Wilson unopposed for governor and secretary of state and agriculture contests leaning toward their Democratic and Republican nominees.

Hoff man charged that Gillette supporters sold appointive offices to help the senator win over a gang that punished him for not bowing to the White House. He refused to specify when pressed, leaving O Connors friend to explain the Sunday night tirade and defend innocents before Gillette closes those sales.
State Representative B. B. Hickenlooper of Cedar Rapids fell behind in the tight Republican contest for lieutenant governor based on Tuesday afternoon returns.
Cedar Rapids state representative Hickenlooper won the Linn county Republican nomination for lieutenant governor with 4694 votes to 529 for Harry B. Thompson of Muscatine. Every precinct backed Hickenlooper, who also drew the highest total among Republican candidates. Democratic Lieutenant Gov Valentine had 1802 votes with no opposition, while Kraschel and Wilson sought the governorship.
The house appropriations committee reported a final deficiency bill totaling 272,516,979 dollars to finance the start of nine teen ships and naval facilities. It funds two battleships two light cruisers seven auxiliaries and eight mosquito fleet boats while trimming admin and yard costs. The measure remains a large peacetime deficiency and includes 41,775,167 dollars for naval purposes with 35,802,000 for the president's shipbuilding program.
Senate conferees approve a compromise replacing a fixed 40 cent wage with a universal 25 cent start rising to 40 cents as studies determine. Advisory boards decide pace. Southern senators hint at filibuster to block bills missing pay differentials.
