D Day veterans recall grim sacrifice on Normandy beaches
Ninety years after D-Day the Normandy coast again hosts veterans as 80th anniversary events honor the heavy losses. Walter Stitt, who turns 100 in July, recalls tanks and the young lives lost, while Bob Gibson and Robert Pedigo share memories of Omaha Utah and air bombardment. Allied casualties numbered in the thousands on D-Day and in the subsequent campaign, yet veterans now receive tribute as they travel from England to France aboard ships and ferries amid ceremonies and a pipe band performance.
