A street farewell picnic was held Thursday evening for Mr. and Mrs. Norman Pearson and their children Richard and Phyllis at 1021 Norwood Drive SE. Twenty families attended before the family moved to Manchester on Friday.
The Sons of Union Veterans Auxiliary 22 met Wednesday evening at 1617 Second Ave SE in Waterloo with guests Inspector Lena Lemper and Ethele Snodgrass. Bessie Culbreth hosted for Dora Johnson of Mechanicsville, along with other members.
The Rev Mr and Mrs John K Moore travel on a wedding trip to Colorado and will reside at 1320 First St SW Cedar Rapids after returning. The former Miss Betty Bruner daughter of Mrs Veda G Bruner of Burlington and Mr Moore were married Saturday at 3 pm in Oak Street Baptist Church Burlington. Moore is minister of John Huss and Asbury Methodist churches in Cedar Rapids.
Miss Carolyn Van Note of San Francisco, daughter of Mr and Mrs Laurence Van Note of Blairs Ferry road NE, was honored at a tea Thursday afternoon hosted by George Hennessey and Richard E Val here at 1007 Thirtieth St NE. Sixteen guests attended and Miss Van Note will return to San Francisco Saturday after a weeklong vacation with her parents.
Miss JoAnne Bernice Novotny became the bride of James Moorman son of Mr and Mrs Edwin F Moorman at the Little Brown Church in Nashua on Wednesday. The bride daughter of Mr and Mrs Joseph J Novotny was attended by Karen Novotny and Robert C Moorman. The couple planned to live in Iowa City for the summer before moving to Dallas Texas in the fall when Mr Moorman enters Southern Methodist University.
Mr and Mrs Scott McIntyre and daughters Margaret and Susan return home Thursday from Durham North Carolina where Susan McIntyre graduated from Duke University They visited Washington DC along the way Miss Margaret McIntyre will be a Duke junior in the fall The family resides at 627 Cottage Grove Ave SE.
Miss Bonnie Haka of 1415 First Avenue SE and her fiancé Robert T. Hupp of Marion Route 1 were honored at a picnic and miscellaneous shower Friday evening at the home of Mr and Mrs David Wilkin at 2225 Hamilton Street SW. Eighteen guests attended. The couple will be married June 21.

Three American college girls on a Vienna exchange hitch hiked into West Berlin through East Germany, aided by transit visas from East German police. They rode freight trucks past the border and arrived in Berlin at 3 30 am, saying Americans often hitchhike there. The students, Susan Sloman, Joan Whitehead, and Mary Schultz, plan to return the same way.
Darrel Schultz, lumber company manager in Sacramento, recalls learning of his daughter Mary Schultz and two other American college girls hitchhiking through Communist controlled East Germany to reach Berlin. Mary, 21, has been in Europe since February and aims to return in July. She has mailed notes about new experiences and previously broke her ankle while skiing in the Alps.
The secret marriage of Miss Janice M Raim to Richard J Mc Artor is revealed by the bride’s parents Mr and Mrs Jerry Raim. They wed December 30 at 10:30 am in a Lutheran church in Muscatine with Rev A D Steffenson officiating. The bride wore a white knit suit and pink roses. A luncheon followed at Colony Inn in Amana and the bride plans to live with her parents while Mr McArtor is stationed with the navy at Quonset Point Rhode Island.
Elmcrest Golf and Country Club hosted Elmcrest Women's Day with eighty six golfers attending two men’s day events. Winners included Mrs Kenneth Watts Mrs Roy Putnam and Mrs Lyman Heyle for golf with birdie balls, Mrs John Donnelly for most 7s and Mrs Ray T Moore for low putts. A special prize went to Mrs Albert Sidwell. Bridge winners were Mrs Ray Armentrout high Mrs Harold Waite second and Mrs Ed Nelson low with Mrs Stanley Moen earning a special prize.
Eight Washington high school seniors acted as hosts for a galloping breakfast at the J. D. Houser home on Wildwood drive NE. Hosts were Mollie Houser, Mike Evans, Darlene Simmons, Chuck Robison, Kathy Laughlin, Gary Lacock, Sue Caldwell, and Dick Hall. Sixty guests attended.

An open house honors Mr and Mrs I D Yanaway on their 25th anniversary at 130 Thirty third St Drive SE. Shirley Ann Wachter and John L Scheetz wed in St Patrick’s Church Manchester with 200 guests. Lucy Downey, widow of Spanish American War veteran Bill Downey, donated her husband’s casket flag to Tyrell Junior High in Hayward. She told students the flag would inspire American youth and collapsed as they watched. She later died in a hospital near San Leandro and was to be buried beside her husband at Presidio Cemetery.
The Little Muddy Society plans a Saturday picnic at 12:30 at the Skylit motel on Highway 30 West. The event includes officer elections. rain postponement is to Whiteatek. Hosts are Ronald and Janet Edwards.
