Drowned Iowa Men Found Near Lake of the Woods

The body of Frank Klumpar of Independence Iowa was recovered from Regina Bay Lake of the Woods by Indians on Monday. He and companions J L Drahns of Cedar Rapids and Cecil Grant of Finland Ont. disappeared Oct 14 1939 on a hunting trip from Arrowhead Lodge Nestor Falls Ontario. A $100 reward had been offered for each body.

Coe Campaign Sees $125 884 Raised at Luncheon Report

The Coe college fund drive in Cedar Rapids and Linn County reached 125 884 in gifts at a Thursday noon luncheon at the Roosevelt hotel. Campaign HQ move to Old Main on campus and aim to raise an additional 100 000 outside territory in summer. Dr H M Gage announced work will begin soon in Cleveland Ohio as the season nears its close.

Women of St. James Church Clean Camp Good Health Lodge

Eighteen women of St. James Methodist church donated a day of housecleaning to Camp Good Health. Five men helped as they scrubbed floors windows aired mattresses cleaned plumbing waxed furniture and prepared porches and play equipment for the season at the health camp on the hilltop above Big Creek seven miles east of Cedar Rapids along the Lincoln highway.

Hanford MacNider To Speak On WMT At 8 15

Iowa Republican candidate Hanford MacNider of Mason City will deliver a nationwide radio address tonight at 8 15 over the Columbia network. The speech titled National Defense Now will originate from WBBM Chicago with WMT Cedar Rapids carrying the program.

Berlin reports German troops crossed the Somme on a pontoon bridge amid French artillery fire and gained heights on the southern side. A Marion youth Bobby Fullerton sixteen or seventeen, died in a Cedar Rapids hospital from injuries after a collision between a bicycle and a car on Eleventh street. Duane Cruise eighteen, injured in the same accident, was reported in fair condition. Police said the bike rider, on a downhill approach, struck the car just as it veered toward the curb.

Paris Admits Reich Success in Some Spots

Two Children Scalded When Oil Stove Tips Over

At 9 18 a m Thursday Marvin 2 and Doris 4 children of Mr and Mrs Carl Schmikle 1135 Fifth Street NW suffered severe scald burns when an oil stove tipped spilling boiling water on them The boy burned on face and neck and swallowed some water The girl burned on back Captain E A Milliken Red Cross first aid instructor treated them The mother was boiling clothes when the stove tipped fire company No 2 responded but no fire developed They were taken to a doctor then returned home
