Justice William O. Douglas sharply disputed Justice Hugo L. Black’s Arizona California Colorado River decision as Black presided in Warren absence. Douglas derided the 52 page opinion as long and ornate calling it a committee report rather than proper. He urged simpler reasoning and criticized the writing style.
