Guthrie defends closing plan at hearing in Cedar Rapids
Cedar Rapids officials faced questioning as Superintendent Harold Guthrie defended a multi school closing plan before a DPI panel. Jackson Elementary will close this week with Polk Grant Truman and the Arthur Annex slated for next year. Critics argued the process lacked public involvement while Guthrie cited long term declines in enrollment and finances dating to the 1970s. The hearing resumes July 21 after Guthrie begins a new job in Texas.
