Ford Reconsiders, Backs Two Uranium Plants Plan
The Ford administration shifts to a two-track policy supporting both a government uranium enrichment plant at Portsmouth Ohio and a private facility in Alabama. If Congress mandates a government plant, output from Portsmouth may reduce the need for new customers, boosting the Alabama project as a supplier while preserving options for future enrichment.

Vinton Appeals Budget Ceiling
Vinton city officials appealed the nine percent budget growth limit before State Auditor Lloyd Smith. City clerk Bill Strong said the general fund would rise 14.9 percent while total property tax asks would grow only 3.7 percent due to a 17 percent decrease in the debt service fund. The area annexation and rising costs drive the appeal as road funds and insurance costs outpace revenue gains. Registration for Kirkwood Community College summer classes noted with sessions and joint program with Mt. Mercy College.
