Three judges of the U S Eighth Circuit declined Charles Starkweather's request for a writ of habeas corpus and refused any further stay of execution. Four Fugitives Nabbed After 31 Hours Free on Iowa Roads

Four inmates from Fort Madison prison were captured within 31 hours after escaping Wednesday. Three were apprehended west of Albia in Monroe county. Elun Girdler Jr. was found driving a stolen car south of Georgetown. Names include Lloyd Woodson Albert Boerger and Robert Jones. a farmer aided in recovering the car, and officers exchanged shots during the pursuit.

German POW to seek lawful return after deportation ruling

Kurt Rossmeisl a German prisoner of war who eluded capture for 14 years chose to leave the United States voluntarily and attempt to return legally. At a Cincinnati hearing he was declared deportable as an immigrant in the country without a valid visa. He lived in Chicago since 1945 under the alias Frank Ellis and escaped from Camp Butner North Carolina.
