Iowa cash receipts for May total $969.7 million in gross taxes with net $874.5 million after refunds. The 6.1 percent year to date rise exceeds the 2014 forecast, driven by wage withholds and strong tax categories despite farm income declines.
The Iowa state Appeal Board approved a 250000 settlement with Rebecca Segriff, 20, of UI, who was struck by a Cambus in downtown Iowa City in September 2011. The suit claimed negligence by bus driver Peter Leahy and sought compensation for physical and mental pain, medical costs, and disfigurement.
The State Appeal Board approved a $1.75 million payment to Kris Sheridan Hill and his wife Cathy as part of a settlement over alleged medical negligence at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. The Hills claim doctors should have acted sooner to prevent permanent neurological damage after a subdural hematoma from an ATV accident. They cite multiple CT scans and an MRI over 11 days and a brain stem stroke during a second surgery that left vision and cognitive deficits.
