W C Fields Me Confusing Biography on Screen
Rod Steiger stars as WC Fields in a Universal biopic with Valerie Perrine as Carlotta Monti. The film traces his career from Ziegfeld follies to later fame while chronicling his drinking and temper. Viewers may find the screenplay unfocused and Steiger uneven, yet Mancini’s score and moments of Fields' gesture work stand out.
