Coe to Award Six Honorary Degrees Across Disciplines
Six honorary degrees will be conferred at Coe College commencement to honor John Cowles of the Minneapolis Star and Tribune, the Rev. Walter Staves of the Congregational Church of the Chimes, Howard Hall of Cedar Rapids, Dr. Alexander M. Lippisch of Collins Radio, Dr. William G. Murray of Iowa State College, and Justice William Avery Smith of the Iowa Supreme Court. Cowles will speak. Staves will give the baccalaureate.

Sophisticated Lady Highlight At El Kahir Show
El Kahir Shrine in Hawkeye Downs hosts a five performance dressage weekend with Sophisticated Lady, owned by Austin Smith of Osceola, slated for all five shows. The event features 400+ horses, $8 000 in cash and trophies, camel and pony rides for children, and a separate quarter horse show next Sunday at 9 a m. Hayes Kindergartners Ride Train to Cedar Rapids Picnic
About 62 students from Hayes kindergarten will take their first train ride on Wednesday. They board at Union Station in Cedar Rapids and travel to Ely, guided by teacher Mrs. Ernest Crowell, with a picnic at Bever Park. If rain occurs, the trip moves to Thursday.
