Polk County Auditor Harold Anderson a Democrat challenged an attorney general opinion directing ballot party order. He argues state law vests printing duties and party listing with his office, citing a provision on candidate rotation and the secretary of state’s certification. The attorney general’s view, requested by Secretary Melvin Synhorst, says candidates and parties should appear in the order they are certified. Anderson insists the law refers only to office candidates placement, not party names.

HARLAN AP Three days after commencement funeral services will be read Saturday from the same high school platform for two of its graduates killed in an automobile truck crash Wednesday night. The fifth victim, a Dunlap resident, will be buried after services at the Dunlap Methodist church. Stores in the town of 4000 will close from 3 to 5 o'clock Saturday during the services. Services moved from the Lutheran church to the school to accommodate the crowd. Twenty four classmates will serve as pallbearers. An inquest into the accident will be held Tuesday.
