Sailor given probation for death of Hiawatha man
Joshua Newton, 22, pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter in the October 2004 death of Eric Dahms, a USS Donald Cook sailor from Hiawatha. He received five years probation with no prison time, after a Norfolk court suspended the five year sentence. Dahms’ death followed Newton’s two punches outside a Norfolk bar, and his family attended the sentencing and spoke of forgiveness and consequences.
