French Vote Today for Fourth Time in a Year

Paris reports France votes on Sunday for the fourth time in a year to decide the fate of a strong Communist bid for control. With 25 million voters, 586 deputies will be chosen amid a fragmented field as Socialist and Communist splits shape the outcome. The election ends a bitter campaign marked by Socialist accusations of foreign influence and a failed merger with the Communists. If the Communists lose seats, new coalitions may form and opposition could grow.
