Wahlert Ends Xavier Title Streak In 1A Tennis Showdown
In Iowa City the Wahlert Golden Eagles defeated Cedar Rapids Xavier 5-3 to win the Class 1A boys tennis title at the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Center. Wahlert claimed two straight-set wins at No 2 and No 3 doubles after a 3-3 singles split, snapping Xavier’s five-year championship run and earning Wahlert an 11th state crown. Xavier had wins in three-set singles matches but could not overcome Wahlert’s overall depth. Coach Jim Potts praised Wahlert’s performance as the best he’d seen from them in a long time.
