Noisy 30 Minute Protest Staged by Scott Prisoners
About 70 inmates at Scott county jail held a noisy demonstration demanding more and better food. Two prisoners were placed in solitary confinement for a short period, and the protest targeted two trusties who prepare meals. Grievances included beans on the menu five days a week and requests for a radio in the cell block and daily sports sections. Radios had been banned after four inmates escaped recently while guards confiscated a radio at lights out.

Gladbrook mayor Dr Lloyd Henry Thomson bound over to Polk county grand jury on a drunk driving charge. The 47 year old veterinarian was arrested April 2 in an East Des Moines district. Patrolman A Douglas Davis testified that he observed weaving and failed blood test. Thomson did not testify but Elbert Westfall testified Thomsen acted like a gentleman at a service station before arrest.

Drowned Boy in Des Moines River Near Fort Dodge
Robert Medearis ten-year-old of the Coleman District drowned Friday in the Des Moines river southwest of Fort Dodge. He and his brother Ronald thirteen were wading the river near the Iowa Illinois Electric Company dam when cries were heard by two plant workers. Ronald was pulled from the water while Robert's body was recovered about an hour and a half later by firemen.

Pedestrian Charged After Ottumwa Woman Fatal Crash
Harold Ashcraft, 17, of Bloomfield, free on bond after being charged with reckless driving in connection with the death of Minnie J. Morrison, 63, of Ottumwa. Morrison was fatally struck by Ashcraft’s car on Iowa 34 inside Ottumwa city limits. He was to appear in police court on Tuesday.

Man Dies As Bulldozer Backed Over Co-Worker
Burlington AP Lloyd Johnson 24 was killed when a bulldozer operated by Darrell Bailey 22 backed over him at a rock quarry near Morning Sun. They were stripping rock in a crew. Johnson is survived by his parents from Adel. Bailey was treated for shock at a Burlington hospital. Both men unmarried and employed by Concrete Materials and Construction Co of Cedar Rapids.
