Evidence Points to Mid-Air Explosion of U S Baltic Patrol Plane
U S state department sources say new evidence strongly suggests the unarmed patrol bomber exploded in mid air before its crash after being shot down by Soviet forces over the Baltic on April 8. Navy tests with Lt. Comdr. M W Cagle show the front wheel was retracted at impact, implying a mid air detonation and extensive wing damage.
