Tama man’s death not linked to ConAgra E coli recall
Tama health officials said the 72 year old Earl Workman died of hemorrhagic colitis from an E coli infection but genetic testing ruled out the ConAgra ground beef source. The recall involved 19 million pounds of beef with EST 969 USDA codes.

Judge presides over C R vehicular homicide case
Linn County District Court heard the non jury trial of 18 year old Shane Thurmond charged with vehicular homicide and drunken driving for a May 20 2001 crash on Mount Vernon Road SE that killed Daniel Sallis and injured Carly Okken. The judge allowed exhibits from both sides and said a verdict would come as soon as possible.
