Winthrop led the West division with a 12-2 win over Ryan as Carl Blumenshine and Steve Esch hit homers. Earlville defeated Hopkinton 12-3 behind Les Fijelstul’s three-run shot. Jerry Hoyt’s double plated Neil Kacena in Alburnett’s 9-8 win over Center Point. Dale Cross homered for Center Point. John Gaul tripled and scored on a passed ball to lift Independence 7-6 over Central City. Lyle Hosch went 4-for-5 with four RBIs. The Reformatory earned a 9-0 forfeit from Delhi.

Maidrite Triumph Sets Final Clash in District Softball

Eastside Maidrite of Cedar Rapids earns three straight wins in the ASA district tournament losers bracket to face Clayton House of Davenport for the district title. Maidrite topped Wolf's Sewing 2-1, The Place 9-1, and Pilcher Auto 3-1. Clayton House is undefeated in the double elimination format.

Norway routs Keystone as Van Scoync Schulte and Butz homer

North division leader Norway blanked Keystone 11-0 with homers from Jim Van Scoync Randy Schulte and Regis Butz. M F L Wins District Baseball Title At Waterloo

Monona M F L clinched the district championship with a 3-2 win over Waterloo West after trailing 2-0 entering the seventh. The decisive run came on a bases loaded hit by pitch to Scott Monerud from reliever VanSyoc. M F L advances to face Mason City or Newton in the state meet in Cedar Rapids later this week.
