Mrs. Raymond Lantz of Elgin Iowa died from injuries suffered in a head on collision south of Gander on Wednesday night. Four other people were injured in the crash and were treated at Postville hospital.
Five people including a 21 year old child were saved seconds before a car leaped onto a front yard after colliding with another vehicle at Ninth avenue and Seventh street SE around 6 p m Thursday. Mrs. George Gianopulos 45 of 717 Fourteenth street SE suffered possible rib fractures and was taken to St Luke s hospital. The injured driver Emmanuel Gianopulos 16 was the son of the woman. The other driver John K Kluck 27 of 2625 Otis road SE remained at the scene. Police said the Gianopulos car traveled east on Ninth avenue while the black auto moved south on Seventh street. The lawn residents included Georgia Minor Tom Lawrence Thelma Evans and Nora Zearing.
A 52 year old Manchester man Walter Cyril Langridge was charged with assault with intent to commit sodomy by County Attorney Willis A Glassgow. Cedar Rapids detectives arrested Langridge after he allegedly wrote a letter seeking an immoral act and tried to meet a 23 year old Cedar Rapids man. An appointment was arranged with a detective present. Langridge appeared before Judge Floyd Philbrick and was given until Monday to plead with bond set at 2500 dollars.
Police captured William C. Cundiff after a glow powder dusting on a money jar led to evidence. He pleaded guilty to breaking and entering in Linn County District Court and received two months in jail plus a $1 fine and a mandatory compliance with an Iowa law provision. The case tied powder traces on his clothing and on money to his theft from landlady Pat Nicola. Detective Lester Woodward and patrolmen Robert Brooks and Robert Havlik led the investigation. Agnes B. Lane filed suit for separate maintenance Friday.

NEW YORK AP The Maytag Company of Newton Iowa Friday reported a slight increase in net income for the six months ended June 30 over the same period a year ago. Maytag posted a net income of 3,257,291 dollars for the first six months.
