J E Reid a 24 year old state highway engineer from Cedar Rapids drowned about 100 rods from shore at East Okoboji Lake while diving from a boat. His body was recovered an hour later. Reid left Cedar Rapids for Arnolds Park with friends July 19 and leaves a wife Christina Morrison and a three month old son. His parents were en route to Wisconsin when the accident occurred.
In San Diego search efforts failed to locate Lieut Dick R Downer of Davenport Iowa and Aviation Pilot John F Hogan believed trapped in wreckage of a naval flying boat after a crash at sea. Downer was 27 and son of Mr and Mrs E Downer. Three others aboard were rescued.
