Unhealthy Iowa streams gain help from volunteers
Hawkeye Fly Fishers Association and private landowners have completed a Wisconsin Hide project on Spring Branch creek near Manchester Delaware county to stabilize an eroding bank and shelter fish. Volunteers, including Pete Cook, built a wooden platform tied to the bank and covered it with rock and earth to create a gradual slope for five fish-holding sites.

Experts like Don Diegen warn sediment from farming erodes habitat, warming water and reducing food, urging livestock exclusion and better streamside conservation to speed recovery.
