Iowa State Patrol air wing faces staffing cuts and higher costs
The Iowa State Patrol Air Wing has seen pilot staffing drop from 16 in 1996 to seven today, reducing ground enforcement and traffic tickets. Officials cite budget woes and rising fuel costs while stressing the unit remains essential for searches, fugitive hunts, and enforcement with infrared and surveillance gear.

Iowa Film Tax Credits Paid Out in Settlements and Scandals
The state faced pre litigation settlements totaling 100000 for two film projects with TriCoast Iowa Productions LLC and D C Basketball Productions LLC. A 2007 law created a 25 percent Iowa film tax credit for production and investor costs with a $100000 minimum spend. The Culver administration suspended the program in 2009 amid abuse concerns. A 2010 audit found $25600000 in credits issued improperly and tied losses to state jobs and prosecutions, while settlements and interviews describe efforts to limit liability and reduce exposure. A separate $2.1 million settlement involved a UNI Camp Adventure incident in Germany and a $1.875 million share of a larger $3.75 million settlement over a birth negligence case at the University of Iowa Hospitals.
