Rare longear sunfish found near Muscatine in Iowa
Three longear sunfish, last seen in Iowa in 1982, were found at the Fairport Fish Hatchery on the Mississippi near Muscatine. Biologists doubt origin but suspect a remnant population, with DNA and fin clip tests pending to confirm identifications. The fish, two males and one possibly female, were discovered in rearing ponds flooded by Mississippi River waters.
