Judge upholds exclusion of Riggs statements in rest stop killing case

A Nebraska judge ruled that statements made by Peter Riggs after his arrest cannot be used at his murder trial. The ruling, affirmed after an appeal, holds that his responses following Miranda rights likely invoked his right to silence, ending questioning. Riggs, 32, is charged with first degree murder in the May 29, 2010, fatal rest stop shooting near Victor, Iowa. His trial is set for October 17 in Scott County District Court in Davenport.
