Stark officers to leave Navy after Iran conflict

Captain Glenn Brindel and Lt Basil Moncrief will leave the Navy without court martial following admissions of responsibility for the USS Stark failure to defend against an Iraqi war plane. Brindel will retire as a commander with pension implications. Moncrief resigns forfeiting any pension. The Stark disaster killed 37 sailors and injured 21 when struck by two Exocet missiles on May 17 in the Persian Gulf.
