Thousands of cyclists near Mount Pleasant cap 434 mile RAGBRAI trek
Thousands of riders crossed the Mount Pleasant stop on the southern route of the Register's Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa. The 434 mile route, the hilliest in year 51, bypassed the Corridor and included a 100 mile day on Friday. The ride began Sunday in Glenwood and ends in Burlington with an Ottumwa start and Fairfield lunch stop.

Johnson County auditor resigns for health reasons
Johnson County Democrats plan a special convention to nominate a replacement for county auditor Travis Weipert who resigned for health reasons. Weipert, in office since 2013, was unopposed in the June Democratic primary and sought re election in the November general. The post pays 120000 a year and no Republican candidate has emerged. Ed Cranston said the party will hold a convention to choose a candidate.
