Citizens mobilize to block old Cedar Rapids incinerator plan
The Oak Hill Citizens Committee voted to oppose Cedar Rapids and Shattuck Chemical Co. leasing or buying the old sewage plant incinerator for a metal roasting operation. Residents fear added air and noise pollution while officials weigh lease versus purchase and plan hearings. A petition opposing the project gathers hundreds of names with backing from Citizens for Community Improvement. Public hearings and health standards compliance remain required before any agreement.
